Hey Everyone,
Thanks very much for taking the time to visit my fundraising page, which aims to support the excellent work the Heart Foundation does to help prevent cardiovascular disease in Australians.
Over the next 6 weeks (July 1st - August 13th), I'll be running to promote physical activity and its protective benefits against cardiovascular disease (i.e., heart disease, stroke and vascular/disease of the blood vessels). Physical inactivity is one of the biggest risk factors for cardiovascular disease, and 4 out of 5 Australian adults (aged 18-64) do not achieve the recommended weekly activity levels of at least 150 minutes (moderate activity) per week. To promote increased participation in physical activity, I'll be running a minimum of 150 minutes each week.
During this time period, I have 3 half marathon events, including the Gold Coast Half Marathon (Sat 1st July), Jetty2Jetty Half Marathon (Sun 16th July) and the Sunshine Coast Half Marathon (Sun 13th August). If you're also participating in any of these events, please let me know.
Although the incidence (number of new cases) and prevalence (% of the population) with cardiovascular disease has declined in recent times, the burden of this disease still remains high. If you're interested, you can find more information on key statistics of cardiovascular disease here:
