Thank you for kick starting my campaign!

Dear Cousin Chris, Susan and Anonymous.

To have the first generous donations in on my first official day of this campaign really boosted me.

It did put the proverbial spring into my step and made me more determined to leave home at 6am today when it was grey and close to rain.

Thank you all for your encouragement. We've got this!

Here is one of the regular dogs I have been for several years during COVID and my dawn walks. This lady has two and both now are too old to walk much - so she carries them to the church yard at St Jude's Randwick where she puts them on the grass and they smell the flowers and poke around in the grass.

I asked her about the colour - it is vegetable dye and one of the options the dog groomer has!! She had thought to get purple to celebrate the royals going to the races whilst in Australia but has found out that is not going to happen - so is now "off" the royals.

Early morning conversations are all short stories in and of themselves.

Heart disease remains Australia’s number one killer, taking 48 lives every day.

The Heart Foundation needs people like you and me to help them reverse Australia’s devastating heart statistics:

• Almost 13 million Australians have three or more heart disease risk factors

• In 2018, heart disease killed one person every 30 minutes

• There are 57,000 heart attacks in Australia every year. 20 people die each day

I know this has affected many of my friends, their families and my extended family.

So, for all reasons, I am highly motivated to do what I can this month and walk til I drop. Well not quite...

This is me on the Queen Park walking track at 6am today. Onto it.

Heartfelt

I am grateful to be a Meningitis Survivor.

29 September is the first anniversary of my Near Death Experience. Followed over the next three weeks by two Code Blues, some temporary paralysis where I couldn't feed myself, and some time being pushed in a wheelchair by my devoted sister.

After three weeks in the amazing Prince of Wales ICU Infectious Diseases unit under acute observation, I then moved home to a month of Hospital In The Home, happily bypassing rehab which was quite miraculous.

I've been back working as a consultant and mentor since early this year with a renewed sense of daily gratitude. I thank everyone who has supported me during this time. I have never felt alone.

Over the year I have set a series of recovery goals both mentally and physically. With the generous support of family, neighbours and friends in so many ways, I have today reached my next recovery goal which is to continue my annual commitment to the Heart Foundation.

I am walking during October to support the Heart Foundation's astounding research, public education campaigns and their vision for a heart healthier future for all of us.

Over the month I promise not to spam, but will share some of their tips which I have found useful and some of the research our donations help fund.

I do invite you to consider supporting the Heart Foundation. Every dollar will push me out of bed and help keep on the straight and narrow!

You have all shown such generosity in supporting the Heart Foundation in the past and me in the present, for which I am forever grateful.

COVID remains a challenge for me, living in a petri dish of sickness which is my local area. But nowhere near as bad as previous years - this is a photo of the reality of previous years.

My friend Ali has gifted me new masks so we'll have some prettier happy snaps this time round!
